Course Description:

As massage therapists, having a variety of techniques available to use for the clients is key to building a thriving practice.  This course will give an introduction to manual lymphatic drainage as an opportunity to use bodywork techniques to assist clients with edema, boosting the immune system and reduction of scar tissue from healing injuries.  Each participant will have an opportunity to learn and practice basic techniques which can easily be incorporated into their current full body routines or be used on their own as a full body lymphatic routine.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand key figures and the historical development of MLD since the late 19th century
  • Understand of the indications and contraindications with various pathologies for MLD; when to use the techniques and when not to use the techniques
  • Understand the difference between manual lymphatic drainage and comprehensive decongestive therapy
  • Understand the basics of the lymph system and its role in the immune system for the human body along with the directional flow of the lymph system
  • Learn the basic MLD techniques and technique variations to perform a basic anterior MLD routine
